lookin' for a sign of life

[The Deep Roads yet again. And with a mage. The idea behind the thing made sense. Alistair was a former Templar-in-Training and could dispel the magic of a renegade mage if need be. Alistair really hoped it wouldn't come to that. He liked Anders for what that was worth. Granted, the two didn't know each other very well and Anders delighted in giving Alistair a difficult time... not that the other Warden really had to try too hard. But they've had some fun chats and Alistair is never one to shy away from learning from another person. Those remarks about being a templar could go, though. No matter how many times Alistair reminded Anders that he never actually was one, the mage always seemed to conveniently forget.

But now it was just the two of them in the dark chill, two Wardens meant to complement each other with their various strengths. The mission was simple enough in theory: determine whether or not the darkspawn had returned underground and if so, note where among the Deep Roads to the best of their ability. A task easier said than done considering how easy to was to lose one's way.

Alistair adjusts the pack against his shoulders and holds his glowstone torch aloft. Everything looked the same.]

You know, I always wondered why my father willingly came down here twice and now here I am doing the same thing. Though I'll have to be honest, the food that was rationed for us really isn't that bad. I have a feeling someone knows how I feel about cheese based on the amount of it in my bag. The meat's not bad either, though I'm... not entirely sure what it is.

[When Bruce arrives, John ushers his friend through the front door and into the mill house. He loops an arm around Bruce's back and kicks the heavy door behind them. The door closes with a bang and considering the company John wonders if that was the wisest choice. Or maybe that was the wrong method entirely and he should have slammed it harder. The barriers won't test themselves after all.]

Come in, come in, but be mindful of what you touch. Certain objects in this house are rigged with anti theft spells. Could make you freeze in place or float in midair. Not much you can do about it until I get you out. Also-

[With a wave of both hands John reveals previously invisible circles made of golden light all across the floor of the house. Not a single inch of the house is left uncovered by the spells.]

Nifty eh? Made these for the big guy. If you transform within the house or any of its outside grounds an enchantment will activate. Whichever circle you are in at the time will light and you'll remain in its confines until you either change back to that handsome face we all know and love or I unlock the spell. [a wink] Told you I'd have it sorted.

[Yes, it's kind of a lot, but it was best to be up front. And maybe it would do something to at least lower the fretting a fraction of a percentage.

Though those are two significant items of interest, they come nowhere close to scratching the surface of the various mysteries hidden within the house.]

Never let it be said that John Constantine wouldn't go to certain lengths for a laugh. A great deal of effort and it was out of the question, but if the effort was minimal while completing another task then sure, why not?

When he arrives at the address indicated, John stands at the door holding a single rose wrapped in plastic from his last trip to the supermarket. The flower is in mostly good shape save for a slight drying at the edge of the petals. What is the most glaring is a large yellow sticker against the plastic, declaring the item HALF OFF FOR QUICK SALE! The artist was getting his damn rose, but it was still very clearly on John's terms.

He gives the door a solid knock, not even waiting for Marcus to respond before calling loudly against it. "Yeah, it's John. You'd better not be in there doing a shit." Despite being relentlessly forward, there's a lightness in John's voice. He's here to listen to music and drink up Marcus' alcohol supply. Should be fun. In the hand opposite of the rose is a bottle of gin. He didn't exactly trust that supply to last.
